"Simena... an ancient city that carries the echo of centuries of maritime heritage," as Ares Yachts describes it.
Simena's history dates back to the 4th century BC, and it remains a hidden gem accessible only by sea in Antalya province. It has long served as a sanctuary, offering a haven to seafarers against the relentless power of the Mediterranean's fiercest waves.
After the November announcement that ARES YACHTS’ 62-meter flagship sailing superyacht, SIMENA, had entered the outfitting stage, the Antalya-based shipyard has revealed additional details about both its interior and exterior designs. Taka Yacht Design and Design Unlimited, the creative minds behind the project, have crafted the interior and exterior, respectively.
Simena, a robust steel-composite yacht built to RINA Class C standards, showcases traditional laid teak decks and varnished Sipo Mahogany exterior joinery. The exterior lines, designed by Osman Tanju Kalaycioglu of Taka Yacht Design, seamlessly blend the classical with the modern, drawing inspiration from the elegance of a bygone era of sailing.
Osman Tanju Kalaycioglu, naval architect and owner of Taka Yacht Design reflected on the superyacht’s elegant exterior lines, “I would describe her exterior design as “classic with character”
Simena can accommodate up to 12 guests onboard, with space for a crew of nine.
Mark Tucker, Creative Director of Design Unlimited, describes Simena's interior styling as "a relaxed and refined sanctuary fit for escapism and the entertaining of family and friends when required."
The interior seamlessly marries contemporary technology with traditional yachting values. Modern elements are discreetly integrated, such as hidden TV lifts in the saloon and master suite. The interior palette revolves around walnut, textured leathers, fabrics, and antiqued brass accents, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.
In addition to its serene and relaxing ambiance, SIMENA features subtle finishing touches that infuse a sense of glamour on board. These include carefully illuminated fine woven metals encased in glass, creating semi-transparent divisions, as well as textual woven leather panels framed within the furniture’s construction.
The vessel is propelled by a state-of-the-art hybrid drive system, allowing for silent electric operation at speeds up to 6 knots. Complementing the 220kW electric motors is a robust 882 kW diesel engine, propelling the yacht to a top speed of 15 knots. When cruising at 11 knots, SIMENA boasts an impressive range of 4,000 nautical miles.
The yacht is scheduled for delivery in December 2024.
