Following on from the 33.12m Juno sailing yacht and the 33.12m Mini Juno, Dixon Yacht Design has introduced the Juno Junior concept. It is actually a more compact version of the 106m design house Juno. This time they have shrunk it to 70.6 meters, hence the name Juno Jr. The yacht will have hybrid propulsion and can use a series or parallel installation.
The name Juno comes from Nerina Pallot's song 'Juno' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F88flTJupFQ), the Juno range combines motor and sailing design to offer the environmentally conscious owner a genuine alternative to traditional sailing or motor yacht ownership.
"The design principle was to create a range of yachts that were extremely energy efficient with particular attention to maximizing on-board energy harvesting opportunities," explained Anders Berg of Dixon Yacht Design.
Ecological Design
Geared towards the 'environmentally conscious owner', the Juno JR is equipped with two Southern Spars Dyna rigs for easy and efficient handling of the sails. Juno Jr is an environmentally conscious design that aims to use integrated energy recovery turbines within the propulsion system to regenerate electricity while sailing. These are combined with a series of integrated photovoltaic/thermal solar panels and are thermally insulated with deck overhangs to reduce heat gain. Solar panels have been integrated into the flybridge superstructure. The two propellers will also act as energy recovery turbines.
Interior Design
Internally the boat shares many design features with motor yachts. The main deck features a large light and airy glazed deck saloon looking aft over the pool, four comfortably proportioned guest cabins and a full-width owner's cabin incorporating balconies and a signature backlit glass wardrobe. On the lower deck guests have a cinema, spa with sauna and gym. on the upper deck with the bridge is a formal lounge and indoor dining.
Advanced glazing panels have been added. The vertical side windows are designed with insulating glass, while the roof structure is designed to accommodate high efficiency solar panels embedded in the glass panels. Additional onboard heat recovery systems contribute to this highly efficient vessel. All possible steps are designed to minimize energy losses.
Exterior
The Juno JR revolves around an inside-out concept with a large, flexible rear deck for entertaining. While full details have yet to be revealed, exterior renderings reveal a sun Jacuzzi, a 12-person alfresco dining area, two L-shaped sofas and a pool flanked by sun loungers – all with unobstructed views from the stern. A multi-articulated swim platform allows easy access to the water. The Juno JR also has a large storage space.
