Luxury automobile giant Ferrari has announced its most audacious project to date – a 30.5-metre foiling racing yacht named Ferrari Hypersail. Scheduled for launch in 2026, the vessel will be the first of its size to operate entirely without fossil fuels, relying exclusively on solar, wind and kinetic energy.

The project brings together some of the brightest minds in automotive and naval innovation. French naval architect Guillaume Verdier leads the design, introducing an innovative canting keel that supports one of the yacht’s foils. Combined with a foil on the rudder and two lateral foils, this allows the vessel to "fly" stably over the water, with three points of contact ensuring control and lift.

Importantly, no combustion engine is present onboard. All the energy required to power the control and motion systems for the foils, keel, rudder, and the onboard electronics will be generated autonomously while sailing. The yacht will also feature a flight control system developed from Ferrari’s experience in high-performance automotive engineering – a testament to the project’s cross-industry innovation.

"It’s an exciting challenge, backed by a truly unique team that brings together Ferrari’s excellence and the expertise of specialists in ocean sailing design," said Giovanni Soldini, project lead and renowned Italian yachtsman.

"Hypersail is a new challenge that pushes us to go beyond our boundaries and expand our technological horizons," added John Elkann, Ferrari Chairman.
Ferrari has also underlined that the Hypersail project is based on an open innovation model, encouraging collaboration with external experts and suppliers in fields such as aerodynamics, power management, and kinetic energy systems.

The scale of technological development is considerable – nine patents have already been filed, with six more currently being drafted.
Hypersail is more than just a high-performance yacht – it represents a bold step toward sustainable racing and could be a defining moment in the convergence of luxury automotive excellence and clean-energy marine design.
