The sailing catamaran Art Explorer has been launched by The Italian Sea Group (TISG) from its Marina di Carrara facilities. The project marks the first build under the Perini Navi brand, following its acquisition by TISG in late 2021.
The vessel made its debut at the MonacoYacht Show 2023. The world's largest aluminum sailing catamaran with an overall length of 47 meters, a keel of 17.30 meters and an impressive 55 meter all-carbon sail design, Art Explorer is a unique work of art. Designed (both naval architecture and interior) by designer Axel De Beaufort. It is a real floating museum, the first and only of its kind.
The catamaran ARTEXPLORER is the first museum boat in the world. It can welcome up to 2,000 people daily and offers an immersive exhibition designed in excellent collaboration with the Louvre Museum. The Flybridge is used as a venue for virtual exhibitions, workshops and conferences.
ART EXPLORER offers an immersive experience of artistic activities on-board. Through a sonic odyssey, Ircam and Ircam Amplify invite visitors to explore the senses of the Mediterranean and discover new imaginary or real soundscapes. At the same time, the exhibition "PRÉSENTES", which was created in excellent collaboration with the Louvre Museum, prompts a reflection on the role and representation of female figures in the Mediterranean world, through an educational and sensory experience based on digital audio-visual technologies. The exhibition will include an experience in two parts:
• An educational documentary on the back deck
• An immersive exhibition in the heart of the catamaran
ART EXPLORAR FESTIVAL
The Art Explora festival is a project that promotes exchanges, dialogues and cultural cooperation throughout the Mediterranean region. As part of its commitment to supporting contemporary creation, the festival offers a " crossing residence " program.
The curators associated with the project invite artists, scientists and researchers from the various countries visited by the Art Explora Festival to participate in residencies on the boat or in another Mediterranean city than the one they are staying for a month.
Over thirty artists from fifteen Mediterranean countries will have the opportunity to develop their works and travel to another country in the region. These residencies will allow artists to create a narrative around this Odyssey and support mobility and contemporary creation in the Mediterranean through an extensive network of residencies, institutions, curators and artists.
The sails: A work of art
At the invitation of the Foundation, Laure Prouvost, a contemporary French artist, envisioned a collection of sails for the museum vessel ARTEXPLORER. These sails evoke gentle and contemplative aerial landscapes, transporting us to liberated spaces, both physically and mentally.
Accessibility
The boat is equipped with an accessible ramp for people with reduced mobility. Additional measures may be required depending on the ports. Access to the aft deck and exhibition is possible. However, the upper deck is not accessible. Nevertheless, the organizers give the possibility to be informed in advance about any specific accessibility requirements, so that the necessary arrangements can be made.
Security
Detailed safety instructions will be provided to guests prior to the tour.
Duration of Visit
The total estimated time to visit the boat is 1 hour and 30 minutes. The boat tour is divided into three parts: Discovering the sound odyssey on the upper deck, viewing the documentary on the back deck of the catamaran and visiting the exhibition in the heart of the catamaran.
From spring 2024 to spring 2026, the festival will travel to more than 15 Mediterranean countries, bringing together artists, art conservators, cultural and educational organizations that will collectively envision a new perspective of the Mediterranean. Tickets will be available soon.
"This project highlights our ability to lead the field of large sailing yachts and to pioneer cutting-edge solutions aimed at significantly reducing the environmental impact of yachts. Art Explorer is the result of our continued investment in the study and research of systems reducing emissions. contributing to the improvement of air quality and the health of our seas. Just over a year after the acquisition of Perini Navi and the launch of the new 'Genesis' fleet, the Italian Sea Group confirms Perini Navi's position as global manufacturer in the world of large sailing yachts." comments Giovanni Costantino, Founder & CEO of The Italian Sea Group (TISG).
Art Explorer: a sustainable superyacht
On the roof of the deck, there are 65 square meters of solar panels. Consequently, they allow an instantaneous production of 12 kW and a total energy accumulation of more than 200 kW per day. In addition to this system, there is also a lithium battery unit. The solar panels allow the production of electricity with zero emissions for more than 6 hours on a full charge. The yacht has a "green" class notation. All exhausts have catalytic filters to reduce emissions and particulates. All maneuvers in and out of the port, as well as in protected areas, will be carried out in full electric mode.
Like all new Perini Navi yachts, the catamaran can be handled by one person, thanks to its fully automated sail design. The sailboat can easily sail at a speed of 10 knots even in very low wind conditions.
"The Perini Navi Art Explorer is an innovative project on a technical, mechanical and human level. It represents another important milestone made possible by our constant pursuit of stylistic and technological developments, as well as the professionalism of the entire team behind the project," adds Costantino.
