Lürssen has officially delivered the extraordinary 114.2-metre NAUSICAÄ, previously known under the project name COSMOS, redefining the boundaries of contemporary yacht design, engineering, and innovation. Entirely conceived by acclaimed Australian industrial designer Marc Newson, NAUSICAÄ stands in a category entirely of her own.
For Peter Lürssen, the project carries deep emotional significance. Reflecting on the delivery, he described the yacht as a powerful connection to his great-grandfather Friedrich Lürssen, who built the world’s first motorboat in 1886. While innovation has always defined the German shipyard, NAUSICAÄ represents one of its boldest achievements to date.

Every detail on board reflects Marc Newson’s unmistakable design language. From the sculptural exterior profile to the highly unconventional interior architecture, the yacht was developed with exceptional creative freedom, resulting in a seamless fusion of organic forms, futuristic aesthetics, and groundbreaking functionality. Curved surfaces dominate the yacht’s identity, with almost no flat architectural lines visible throughout the vessel.
One of the greatest technical challenges involved the fabrication of vast cylindrical steel structures with perfect symmetry and geometric precision. These curved elements appear across the yacht, from the aft decks and exterior entrances to the imposing exhaust mast, showcasing an unprecedented level of engineering complexity.
Beneath its striking appearance lies an Ice Class 1D hull, allowing NAUSICAÄ to navigate both tropical waters and polar regions with ease. The yacht was designed for global exploration, with extensive glass architecture creating uninterrupted panoramic views from nearly every onboard space.
Among the yacht’s most remarkable features is the spectacular Skydome, a monumental glass structure composed of seven custom-engineered panes, each weighing more than one tonne. This elevated sanctuary houses a 56-square-metre owner’s office with soaring ceiling heights and direct access to a private sky terrace. Bronze sliding shutters integrated into a circular rail system allow complete control of natural light, further emphasizing the yacht’s architectural sophistication.

Another defining design element is the continuous glass band wrapping around the upper deck. Through meticulous material integration, even technical spaces and doors blend seamlessly into the glazing, creating the illusion of a single uninterrupted ribbon of glass stretching across the yacht.
At the aft, NAUSICAÄ offers one of the most impressive leisure spaces ever seen aboard a superyacht. The expansive 18-metre beam aft deck features a large swimming pool and Jacuzzi, while a sophisticated dry dock system accommodates a 12.5-metre sportsfish tender. Once deployed, the tender garage transforms into a sheltered teak-lined lounge area, demonstrating the yacht’s remarkable versatility.
The interior concept challenges traditional superyacht layouts. Instead of a formal main salon, guests are welcomed into a dramatic two-level atrium functioning as a private art gallery. Sculptural installations, custom-designed furnishings, a sushi bar, table tennis area, and integrated seating spaces create an atmosphere more akin to a contemporary architectural residence than a conventional yacht.

Technologically, NAUSICAÄ also represents a major step toward sustainable yachting. The yacht features a diesel-electric propulsion system with fully electric Azimuth pods powered by five engines and a powerful 2 MW battery system. This setup enables silent cruising with zero local emissions for extended periods.
Looking toward the future, the yacht has also been prepared for the integration of methanol fuel-cell technology, allowing methanol to be converted into hydrogen for cleaner onboard energy production. Once implemented, this system could mark a transformative moment in large-yacht propulsion.
With its visionary design, pioneering engineering, and fearless innovation, NAUSICAÄ is not simply another delivery from Lürssen. It is a statement about the future of superyachting itself.
