Dixon Yacht Design and Lateral Naval Architects, in collaboration with Southern Spars, have announced a 59.5 meter concept sailboat known as Project Maverick.
Anders Berg, partner and principal shipbuilder at Dixon Yacht Design, said that Project Maverick represents a new direction in sailing – a blend of tradition and innovation that challenges conventional construction without sacrificing any of the sailing experience.”
Project Maverick is designed for customers who are adventurous and willing to explore uncharted waters in all latitudes and longitudes because its technical architecture allows for a seamless day of sailing, driving and periods at anchor, with 94 percent of the functions on of the vessel to be conducted in zero emission mode.
At the heart of Project Maverick's design is its all-electric energy architecture. The sailing yacht will harness solar energy through 200 square meters of solar panels, convert kinetic energy while sailing and rely on an energy storage system to manage on-board loads and support low-emission operations.
Project Maverick will be built from partially recycled aluminium, with a displacement of 600 GT and a speed of eight knots in "quiet driving mode".
Accommodation for the owner and guests will be in five cabins, including the owner's suite which will have direct access to the aft platform on the main deck aft. The main deck also features a "bright, open" main salon with covered sides designed to reduce solar heat gain.
The remaining guest cabins will be located on the lower deck, along with five crew cabins and a flexible fifth cabin on the foredeck. Meanwhile, a recessed crane system will allow two seven meter long tenders to be easily used and stored.
The concept is designed with twin rudders, two 930 square meter DynaRigs and a fully retractable vertical ballasted lifting keel, for a draft between four and 6.25 metres.
A beautiful sailing yacht that can have great autonomy and thus enable passengers to live the sea experience to the fullest!
