Berlin-based T. Fotiadis Design Studio, in collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects, has unveiled NEON, a 78-metre superyacht concept that pioneers open-air living by removing traditional bulkhead constraints. The project was revealed in Berlin and demonstrates how engineering innovation can redefine spatial freedom on large yachts.

The NEON concept is built on Lateral’s Free From Bulkheads platform, relocating all technical machinery below deck and allowing interiors to remain open and flexible. Expansive glass walls, retractable terraces, and wide, uninterrupted decks create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Fotiadis designed NEON with fluidity and movement at the forefront, prioritizing connection to the sea and ease of circulation across social zones.

Inside, NEON contrasts its open exterior with warm, natural finishes. Materials such as woods, creamy marbles, and textured fabrics provide calm, spa-like areas while panoramic glazing ensures uninterrupted views. Flexible layouts allow for private cruising or entertainment, and accommodation is provided for 18 guests with 26 crew members.

The spa area is designed as a retreat, complemented by a beach club and multiple alfresco dining zones. The yacht also emphasizes eco-conscious design, featuring diesel-electric propulsion and a range of 6,200 nautical miles. The concept has a top speed of 16.6 knots and a cruising speed of 14.8 knots with an estimated gross tonnage of 2,200 GT and interiors spanning over 500 square metres.

With NEON, Fotiadis wanted to create a yacht that feels as free as the sea itself, where every space flows effortlessly and the connection between the elements and those on board is uninterrupted. Lateral Naval Architects describe the Free From Bulkheads platform as a challenge to the technical status quo, capable of redefining how superyachts are experienced.

NEON is offered ready-to-build at Astra Nord, a newly established superyacht facility in Stralsund, Germany, designed for projects of 65 meters and up. The first refit customer has been accepted, and Fotiadis is working on a series of projects to build yachts on spec. The facility has the capacity to construct yachts up to 295 meters, filling the gap left by Nobiskrug and marking a new chapter in German superyacht construction. Delivery for a build based on NEON is estimated at 42 months from contract.
