Sanlorenzo 74Steel: Zuccon, Paszkowski, and Siemens Energy Deliver the Yard's Largest Project Yet

Commercial success for the project began before the first hull even touched the water, with three units already sold and a fourth under negotiation. Despite being based on a proven, pre-engineered 72-metre technical platform, Sanlorenzo allowed owners to act as co-creators.

Each model in the series varies in length depending on the bow shape and features a completely customized layout. Demonstrating this flexibility, the first two vessels utilize a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system, while the third follows the traditional shaft-line solution.

Architectural Calm

The exterior lines, designed by Zuccon International Project studio, balance robustness with soft curves. The vertical bow and dynamic stern of the first unit create a silhouette that architect Bernardo Zuccon compares to a modern "machine for living" (machine à habiter), bringing Le Corbusier’s principles to the water.

Inside, the duo of Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini followed an inside-out design philosophy. The furniture and rugs adopt organic, curved forms that define spaces without strict, traditional boundaries. The palette is dominated by matte wood finishes that radiate natural warmth, while the use of different types of marble in each bathroom adds a subtle, sculptural character.

The Freedom of Diesel-Electric Propulsion

The choice of a hybrid diesel-electric system (developed in collaboration with Siemens Energy) was not made solely for efficiency. The liberation of technical spaces offered by this layout enabled the creation of a beach club and spa that expands to 290 square metres when the side openings and stern platform are deployed. The system is powered by Volvo Penta – Mase generators and Schottel E-Pods, supported by Lehmann Cobra LFP technology battery banks (1.5 MWh).

The Deck-by-Deck Experience

• Sun Deck & Bridge Deck: The top of the yacht hosts a relaxation area with a firepit, hot tub, and a glass protective screen beneath the hardtop to shield guests when the breeze picks up. Below, the 56-sqm wheelhouse by Team Italia connects to a foredeck that functions as a touch-and-go helipad, while the aft sky lounge transforms into a seamless al fresco dining veranda.

• Owner’s Deck: A self-contained 130-sqm interior sanctuary is dedicated entirely to the owner. It includes a private office, lounge, dual bathrooms, a private forward terrace with a hot tub, and strategically designed access points that prevent crew or guest entry when total privacy is required.

• Main & Lower Deck: Accommodation for guests comprises five ensuite staterooms on the main deck, led by a full-beam VIP suite with its own living room. The 130-sqm main salon opens completely to the surroundings via sliding glass doors, leading aft to a glass-bottomed pool that filters natural light directly into the beach club below.

• Tank Deck: Beyond standard provisioning, the lowest deck accommodates the highly specific request of the first owner: a gym, a wine cellar, and a hydroponic cultivation setup for growing fresh greens at sea.

The Strategic 2,000 GT Threshold

The 74Steel sits at the upper limit of Sanlorenzo’s size range. The shipyard's decision to remain below the 2,000 gross ton mark is deliberate and strategic. By avoiding the complexities of gigayachts, the Italian company retains the flexibility of its made-to-measure essence, proving that sophistication at sea is not measured by volume, but by the purity of the experience.
